Here we go! Tonight we would find out the Top 13! We lost some of my favorites but I'm pretty satisfied with the Top 13. It certainly is diverse and should shape up to be quite a battle.
Chase, Phil & Jeremy were called up first. Throughout the night before each decision we saw the contestants' journey along with the highly opinionated Iovine's impressions on each.
He liked Jeremy as a person but didn't think his voice was special enough for show. Didn't find Chase special at all. Liked Phil's originality, enough to say that he would sign him on the spot.
Phil was the only one in.
Jessica, Hollie, Hallie & Brielle called up next.
Iovine liked Hollie, felt she needs better material to showcase her voice better. Liked Brielle but not her song choice. Didn't have much to say about Hallie. Calls Jessica the front runner, said he would sign her on the spot.

Joshua, Heejun & Adam up next.
Iovine loves Joshua, looking forward to working him. He said Adam needs to figure himself out. He feels Heejun jokes around too much which is something I feel about Heejun as well. Whether it's a contest, an audition or even a job interview - you should always show that you take what you do seriously. Leave the jokes for later.
Joshua in. Heejun in. I was surprised to not see Adam get in. Maybe people didn't like his crying?
Chelsea, Skylar, Baylie & Shannon were called next.
Iovine really liked Skylar's energy. He wasn't impressed by Baylie. For Chelsea, he said she did Carrie Underwood karaoke. He liked Shannon's voice but not her fashion sense. Up until this point, Ryan had spoken to all the contestants when they were brought up but this time Chelsea was not spoken to. That was rather disrespectful. Rather obvious that Chelsea had no chance. Not cool.

Aaron, Creighton, Reed all called up next.
Iovine felt Reed was too kitschy. I totally agree with that. He felt Aaron's performance was cheesy. He also made a weird rather ignorant/racist/stereotype uncalled for comment. Even the judges jumped on it and mocked Iovine for the comment. He didn't like Creighton's voice.
None made it in!
Elise, Jen, Erika & Haley were up next.
Iovine felt that Jen needed to stay away from Adele. Felt that too much vocal gymnastics won't work. On the other side of the token, he liked Erika's vocal restraint. He said Haley needs to stop the robotic mimicry and was out of tune. Although Elise also did Adele, he really liked her. Once again, Ryan didn't speak to another contestant, this time Jen was the one disrespected. Just rude, obvious and weird.
Only 1 Top 5 girls spot left, it went to Elise!
Deandre, Eben, Colton & Jermaine up next.
Iovine really loves Jermaine's voice. He felt Deandre has lots of potential, just needs proper coaching. He felt Eben has potential but not ready for this level. Wishes the rules could be changed. I don't agree that the rules should be changed. The point of getting to this point is that they ARE ready here and now, not come back next season. He felt Colton was good but was trying too hard too soon.
Colton & Jermaine in. Happy to see Jermaine go from wild card to Top 10!
Now we had the Top 10 and the judges had to call out 6 contestants out of the 15 (8 guys, 7 girls) left. Time to sing for the wildcard spots!!
The contestants called out were:
Jen Hirsh- she felt she didn't stand out enough so she was going to try to prove herself. She started off slow but did real good.
Jeremy Rosado- Sang his heart out! Got a standing ovation from the contestants and audience. JLo was in tears. I think half of America was in tears with that heart felt performance. Jeremy couldn't finish, he was so overcome by the moment. I love this kid!!
Brielle Von Hugel- She started off a little rough but was pretty good. I was surprised by Steven & Randy's reactions when they told her she blew her chance with that performance. Wow, poor girl.
Deandre Brackensick- Was pretty good but I would like to see him sing more in his natural voice than the forced falsetto.
Erika Van Pelt- Did Lady Gaga's "Edge of glory" which I thought was a weird choice but she did a very good version of it.
The final judge's choice was Reed Grimm?! Not Adam? I just couldn't believe that. The judge's didn't even sound like they were seriously considering him. More of the same from Reed.
After the performances were done, it was time for the Wildcard picks!

Steven's pick- Deandre Brackensick
There is the Top 13! Pretty darn good if you ask me. I'm looking forward to seeing what they can all do. Right now I think Jessica is the front-runner. Let's see if she can sustain that over the run of shows. I'm betting she can.
Next week, the girls pay tribute to Whitney Houston while the guys take on Stevie Wonder. Two vocal powerhouses that are not easy to sing. Should be interesting.

American Idol - the top 12 girls sing for votes!
So, tonight we got the Top 12 girls singing for America's votes and I was looking forward to it since I think the girls have the talent to end the 5 year reign of male Idol winners. Unfortunately, the judges were going to be more of a hindrance in helping this perception as they must've been spoken to or saw last night's performances and realized they didn't do enough critiquing and being honest. Anyway, the judges were a bit hard on the girls tonight which is something they didn't do the night before and that may give the initial perception to viewers/voters that the males are better. Randy did address this during the show and let the guys know that they were too light on them the night before and that they'll have to bring it if they make it. Hopefully, they'll try to right this judging because tonight they overcompensated for last night's lack of critiquing.
Anyway, enough of critiquing the critiquers! Lol.
Chelsea Sorrell went first and sang Carrie Underwood's "Cowboy Casanova". Tough singer to try to do. It was just ok. The judges weren't crazy about it. And so it began with the judges. Immediate difference in their approach.
Erika Van Pelt sang Heart's "What about love". It was good but just didn't seem to soar as she needed it to.

Brielle Von Hugel sang Otis Redding's "Sitting on the dock of the bay". Started real rough but she brought it up and it came together nice. Her voice reminds me of last season's Haley Reinhart.
Hallie Day sang "Feeling good". She was really good. Best up to this point. I really like her and think she is a total package of looks and talent.
Skyler Laine sang "Stay with me" by Faces. I've been rather on the fence about her but she brought it tonight with really good vocals and I really loved her hi-energy performance. She was having lots of fun. That's how it should be.
Baylie Brown sang "Amazed" by Lonestar. It was a good, pretty version but rather safe and unspectacular. Not what she needed to do but hopefully she gets through. I'm a fan.
Hollie Cavanagh sang "My reflection" by Christina Aguilera. She was very good.
Haley Johnsen sang "Sweet dreams" by the Eurythmics. Just a really bad song choice. She worked hard to make something out of it but that song isn't going to work on a show like this unless you're Annie Lennox or Marilyn Manson. She said she wanted to always do this song but Idol is not the show to be indulgent on, especially when this is your first impression for votes. The judges didn't like it. Randy really hated it. Haley received the first real harsh critique of the season.
Shannon Magrane sang "Light your world" by Kathy Tricoli. Another indulgent song choice but at least it was a rather safe song choice. She showed good vocals.
Jessica Sanchez sang "Love you, I do". Ryan spoke to her beforehand and we were shown a video segment in which we were told how Jessica has had sore vocals and vocal problems all week. With that warning Jessica got on stage to perform. One thing that most people don't know is that a singer can sing sick, they just have to rely totally on technique to get through which can make for a long performance. But had we not been told of Jessica's troubles all week, no one would've been the wiser as she sounded great! The 16 year old schooled all the contestants on not only how to put on a performance but also how to rise above not feeling at your best. Bravo!!
One of my favorites, Elise Testone finished off the night by singing Adele's "One and only". Jen Hirsh had also sung this song earlier in the evening so this was a curious choice but Elise changed it up by playing piano to start off the song. She was very good! I just love the tones in her voice. She also reminds me of a makeup free Lady Gaga.
With time to fill, Ryan asked the judges who were the standouts of the night. Before the vote? I didn't think that was fair to the girls. The judges weren't asked to do this with the guys until tonight, after the votes have already been cast. Not cool. AI better get its act together because things like this sure cast a doubt on the credibility of the judges and the judging process. There's always been a little of the whole trying to guide the audience into voting a certain way but this year it's been more obvious and I don't think it's been purposeful. I think it's been a being unprepared thing with the judges. This has been my favorite assembly of judges but let's get it together Randy, Jen and Steve!
Who do I think gets in from the girls? Tough to pick 5 but IMO, I think Elise, Jessica and Hollie are locks. I hope Hallie, Skylar and Baylie make it too.

American Idol - the Top 13 guys sing
Finally, we get to the part where the singers are singing for America's votes. Time to get this competition out of the judges hands and into ours. I really liked the look of the new stage. Great new stage! It's a good thing that America begins voting now because the Judges decided that they would take the night off of judging and praise everything. Unfortunately, not everything tonight was praise worthy. Ryan let us know that the guys would sing tonight, the girls tomorrow and on Thursday the Top 5 guys & Top 5 girls would be announced along with each judge getting a wildcard pick so we'll have our Top 13 by Thursday night!! Whoa!
Reed Grimm went first with a jazzy version of Maroon 5's "Moves like Jagger" complete with drum/percussion solo? I didn't like it much.
Adam Brock did Aretha's "Think". He sounded good, his performance however was just ok.
Deandre Brackensick sang Earth, Wind & Fire's "Reasons". Great song! Good song choice for his voice but I found it just ok. I didn't really feel his falsetto and I found him too busy playing to the crowd instead of at America. I don't know how that will play out with viewers/voters at home.
Colton Dixon sang Paramore's "Decode"? He is way better than his performance tonight. I just didn't find it good at all.
Jeremy Rosado sang Sara Bareilles "Gravity". Very good!! He was the first real performance of the night. He was IN the song and IN the performance. Best of the night up to that point.
Aaron Marcellus sang Jackson 5's "Never can say goodbye". I didn't get his trying to skew younger look or song choice for the same reason. Not the song I wanted to hear from him. He could've picked a song that showed off his really good vocals better. He was still good but another song could've made him great tonight.
Chase Likens did Hunter Hayes' "Storm warning". Just ok, not on par with the original. Sounded like a karaoke version.
Creighton Fraker did Cyndi Lauper's "True colors". Really cool performance and vocals. He recieved some weird judge feedback though, almost as if they had counted him out and were surprised that he did so well.
Phil Phillips did Phil Collins' "In the air tonight". It was an interesting version. The judges actually were forced to give him some critique for it.
Eben Franckewitz sang Adele's "Set fire to the rain"? I really don't understand why so many of the guys decided to use female fronted songs tonight. If it was to not be judged against male singers then I find that just as strange. Anyway, he was pitchy and the vocals and performance were just ok. Someone must've spoken to the judges between commercials of the first few guys and told them to stop being audience members. The judges were a bit honest finally with Eben and told him he was pitchy, etc.
Heejun Han sang Jessica Simpson's "Angels". Yet another female fronted song and a top notch vocal song at that. He did do a nice solid version though. The judges were not crazy about his song choice. Simple, the guys need to stop with the female fronted songs!
Joshua Ledet sang yet another female fronted song, Jennifer Hudson's "You pull me through". However, I think Joshua can rock just about anything. As I expected he was very good. He can definitely sing!!
Finally we got to the mystery 13th singer and it turned out to be Jermaine Jones!!! Very happy for him and to see him get another opportunity. He sang Luther Vandross' tender song "Dance with my father". He was very good. He was teary eyed with the reception from the audience. I really like him and how he's so appreciative of everything. He was raised right. I hope he makes it.

The Voice - Last of the blind auditions
Tonight's Voice was the last of the blind auditions show! I love the first two rounds of the Voice with the blind auditions and the battle rounds (next week!!). These two rounds are what make the Voice so different from other shows and I really love it and the concepts behind it. Anyway, onto the contestants!
Whitney Myer did Alicia Keys' "No one". She has a good voice and a real cool look. All the coaches turned. Adam won.
David Dunn sang "The man who can't be moved". Before he went on we saw how he had an unsupportive dad who just seemed to care about his son working in the family business. A worthy opportunity I'm sure but he should support his son's dreams first and foremost. Just my opinion. He has a great voice and I was absolutely dumbfounded that no one turned.
The Shields Brothers did Billy Idol's "Dancing with myself". One sang and played guitar while the other rocked out and sang. I thought they were ok. Cee Lo turned.
Cheesa sang "If I were a boy" by Beyonce. She showed a real strong voice. Slightly pitchy though. Cee Lo turned.
Preston Shannon is a 64 year old making one last stab at the big time. Damn, I admire that! He sang "In the midnight hour" while playing some mean guitar. Unfortunately no one turned. It was real cool to see him with support backstage. It doesn't matter your age, you should always have someone pushing you towards your dreams.
Lex Land (cool name!) sang "I can't make you love me" by Bonnie Raitt. I absolutely love this song, so much so that you might be hearing me doing it real soon. ;) I thought she was nervous which made her pitchy... she was only ok IMO. All but Xtina turned. Blake won.
Cameron Novack was shown backstage and boy, was he sure full of himself. He surprisingly turned out to be a good vocalist. He sang "You oughta know" by Alanis Morrisette. I was surprised when no one turned and even more surprised by their reaction at his being a man. I didn't think his voice sounded feminine at all. Cee Lo regretted turning so he walked away with that.
Orlando Napier sang "Waiting on the world to change" by John Mayer. He had an old timey Ray Charles like voice which was really cool. Adam turned.
Lee Koch sang "Like a rolling stone". He has a very cool voice. Rocked the harmonica. Xtina turned. Adam wanted to but couldn't because his team was full.
Wade sang "Rehab" by Amy Winehouse. He did a cool R&B funk version of it. He has an old school soul voice. Cee Lo turned.
Adley Stump sang "Last name" by Carrie Underwood. She showed good, strong vocals that mask her relative self-professed inexperience. Blake & Xtina turned. Blake won.
Sera Hill sang "I'm going down". She was really good. She became Xtina's last team member.
Well, that's it. All 48 contestants have been picked and next week Team Adam, Team Xtina, Team Cee Lo & Team Blake go to battle. Can't wait!!

American Idol - Top 24 night 2
Back to seeing who the entire Top 24 is!
We're back to the emotional Adam Brock's decision time, he of course gets a yes!
Jeremy Rosado did a great last song and also got a yes, as did Shannon Magrane.
Scott Dangerfield was sent home.
We were shown more that didn't make it including Wendy Taylor. I hope she comes back next season, she showed a great voice in the few times we were shown her.
Skylar Laine got a yes as did Hallie Day, Aaron Marcellus, Chase Likens & Deandre Brackensick.
Gentle giant and self professed mama's boy Jermaine Jones was made to sweat it out almost all day only to be sent home. The poor guy was a mess. I really like him and feel he can be a great gospel or soul singer. I hope he tries out again next season or... more on that in a second.

The final 2 guys were David Leathers & Eben Franckewitz. There was only 1 spot left. Eben made it.
But wait! We were told in an unprecedented move, AI would bring one of 4 male contestants (Jermaine Jones, David leathers, Richie Law or Johnny Keyser) as a 13th male contestant. AI would decide and we will find out next week. I hope it's Jermaine!

American Idol - Deciding the Top 24
Tonight's show had the judges trying to get the Idols from 42 contestants down to the Top 24. This is a tough night where we some a lot of favorites make it while others get sent home at the last moment. Heartbreaking for sure, even dream breaking for some as some contestants inevitably question trying to achieve their dream. At least through Idol.
Jen Hirsh & Creighton Fraker made it into the Top 24. Deservedly so.
I was shocked that Lauren Gray didn't make it. This girl certainly has the voice, hopefully she can raise her confidence to the level of her talent. I hope she comes back next season.
It was a no-brainer to see Joshua Ledet make it.
We were then shown singers for the first time who didn't make it. We were seeing them now as they were sent home? That's just rude, they should've gotten a little TV time at least considering they were good enough to get this far. It would've been nice for their families to see and maybe to help inspire them as well.
Haley Johnsen made it but unfortunately Neco Starr was a no.
One of my favorites Elise Testone made it in. So did Reed Grimm.
Erika Van Pelt stumbled in her last performance but got a yes. As did Chelsea Sorrell and Baylie Brown.
The over-confident Richie Law got sent home but his former group-night mate Heejun Han got a yes.
16 year old Jessica Sanchez impressed me with the segment on how she wants to make ti so she can support her family who have supported her dream. That's a mature and noble reason for wanting to make it. She'll get her chance, she made it.
Phil Phillips got a yes, as did Colton Dixon who stood up for sis during his dedication to her at his last performance.
Despite her overbearing mom, Brielle Von Hugel got a yes.
An emotional Adam Brock was before the judges telling them how much music means to him. But we'll have to wait till tomorrow for the decision! C'mon now, how can they send him home? I predict he's in.

The Voice - Night 4 auditions
It's The Voice night. There's been lots of talent shown so far and tonight was no different.
First up was Ducky, yes DUCKy. He had an interesting look and a very good voice. All the coaches thought about it but no one turned which was a surprising start to the show. With remaining slots on each coach's team at a premium the coaches were being very particular of who they were choosing tonight.
Jonathas had a good R&B voice. Cee Lo & Xtina turned. Xtina won.
Monique Benabou had a good voice. Xtina turned for her upon Blake's recommendation that she could do a lot for her. I thought that was cool of him.
Street performer Naia Kete got her invite personally delivered by Carson Daly (who I must say really seems into it this season and has grown into his role) as she street performed. She has a really cool look and seems very humble. Blake & Cee Lo turned. Blake won another very interesting and strong voice to his team. He's in it to win it this season.
Erick Macek did a cool version of "Free fallin'" but no one turned.
Charlotte Sometimes went next. We were told how she endured and came back from a degenerative jaw disease that was eating away at her jaw. She has a cool voice. Her audition showed a lot of interesting note choices. All turned. Blake won.
Tony Vincent did "We are the champions". Really good voice. Cee Lo turned.
Anthony Evans had a nice voice. Cee Lo almost turned. Xtina turned and won.
Jamie Lono has a cool voice although he seemed really nervous. Adam & Cee Lo turned. Cee Lo won.
Dylan Chambers showed a really good voice but no one turned.
Justin Hopkins showed a cool voice. Cee Lo turned.
Nicole Galyon showed a good voice while she played the piano. Adam turned.
Soul singer Eric Tipton had a good voice but didn't show any range with his audition. No one turned.
Mathai was the last contestant of the night. She has a really good voice and lots of style and charisma while performing. All but Xtina turned. Adam won.
The teams are looking good. The battle rounds are going to be brutal. Can't wait!

American Idol - the Vegas round
Tonight was the Vegas round where more hard cuts would be made.
We got to see that super tough Voice teacher Peggi Blu is back. Uh oh!! The drama is starting and the show hasn't even begun!!
This time there would be sudden death performing as the contestants would be told right after their song if they were staying or going. Kind of... more on that later.
After the group and solo rounds, there were now 70 contestants left.
This time they were doing 60s and 50s music in groups of 2-4, divided over 2 days.
There were too many to mention but I'll mention some notables:
Going home in this round - Ashley Robles, Jessica Phillips (her extreme bitterness at her being cut was extremely disappointing as it could turn off people who might've been interested in her), Mathanee Treco and Nick Boddington (which was a surprise as we had been shown nothing but good performances by him).
We were shown that Richie Law and Jermaine Jones had chemistry issues as they tried working together but in the end they worked it out and had a great duo performance.
We got our first listen at Wendy Taylor. All I have to say is WOW!
More cuts needed to be made with Day 1 contestants because of too many Day 2 contestants getting through was rather not fair. All day 1 contestants were brought out in an effort to get down to a top 40. They wound up with 42.

RIP Gary Carter
As a lifelong Mets fan, my heart is aching at the news of Gary's passing. Good bye "Kid". My prayers to his family. R.I.P. Gary Carter.
Just a personal note, the outpouring of love & respect for MJ, Whitney and now Gary is why I like twitter so much.
Goodbye to a GhostHunter
I was sad to read on Twitter that one of the founders of TAPS, Grant Wilson announced that he was leaving TAPS. I was happy to hear he's going to pursue other things close to his heart which is something one must always do. I met him and fellow TAPS co-founder Jason at a book signing in 2010 and they were both as cool and nice as can be. All my best wishes to him!

OMG! I can't believe that the rumors were true, it was announced officially today that WRESTLEMANIA 29 will be at MetLife Stadium! 70000 crazy NYers + WWE = priceless! It's going to be off the charts! I can't wait!

American Idol - the dreaded Group night round
With 185 contestants still left with a chance, it was time for the dreaded Group night round. A round that usually ends with a lot of broken dreams. Tonight was no different as more favorites went home while others rose.
There were just too many to name so I'll stick with notable mentions.
The first favorite shown not to make it was Kyle Crews.
From the group Make you believers, Jackie fainted as she was walking to the stage to perform, she was not well at all as the bug that was going around caught up to her. Amy Brumfield forgot her words and her voice sounded tired. They choose Boston's "More than a feeling" as their song? With all those high notes, that was just a BAD choice. Amy was sent home.
We were shown that a lot of contestants were forgetting their lyrics which is never good and always seems to happen in this round.
From the group Area 451, Imani fainted while rehearsing. Another victim of the bug and dehydration going around the contestants. She was not doing well at all. She was a trooper though and made her way to the stage. She wound fainting on stage while performing. Luckily she was caught before she fell to the ground. Johnny Keyser made it through. The judges spoke to Imani to but wound up sending her home, in large part due to their concern over her health and safety since the pressure on the show only gets bigger from here. Hopefully she tries again next season.
Speaking of fainting, Symone who had ended a show with a fainting spell, was cut in this round.
The group MIT with cowboy dictator Richie Law, Heejun, Jairon Jackson and Phillip Phillips all made it through based on past performances. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.
Favorites that made it through - Hallie day and Elise Testone.
With the group night done, it was time for the solo round! 98 contestants were still remaining. No one would be told the results of the solo round until the end of day when they would be divided into groups of those moving on and those going home.
We were introduced to Joshua Ledet, he has a very good soulful voice. Definitely someone to look out for.
Colton Dixon played a Daughtry song on the piano and moved on.
Phillip Phillips played guitar and showed off his good voice.
We were introduced to Jen Hirsh. Holy moly! Amazing version of Georgia on my mind. Definitely top 12 material.
Shannon Grimm sang "Wonderful world", she was very good.
Reed Grimm's planned audition didn't go as planned as he was told he was not allowed to sing acapella. He had 30 min to get it together with the band. He got the vocal coach to help him but she spent way too much time trying to focus him. Then he began doubting being on Idol. He was very annoying and frustrating to those trying to help him. In the end he decides to play drums while singing. He did Georgia on my mind. After all the drama, he had a good audition.
Skylar Laine needed 3 IVs to help her rehydrate before performing. She did The Band Perry's "You lie". I'm a big TBP fan and I didn't like it but Steven did.
Rachelle Lamb did Miranda Lambert's beautiful song "The house that built me". She forgot the words and restarted. Her audition was ok.
Adam Brock did a very good rendition of "Georgia on my mind".
Time for decisions to be made:
4 rooms
Rm 1- lots of faves
Rm 2- lots of faves
Rm 3- lots of tension, this room was the only one cut.
Rm 4- some faves, some not shown to us yet. Made it through.

The Voice - Night 3 auditions
Tonight was night 3 of the blind Voice auditions. There were some really good voices and performers tonight. This season looks to be highly competitive!
Sarah Golden went first. She had a nice voice, Cee Lo & Blake turned. Cee Lo won.
Elley Duhe was next. We saw that she has very supportive parents which is always a great thing. She has a good voice but still needs work. She picked a bad song to showcase her voice and style and unfortunately no one turned.
Next up was Pip. Yes, you read that right, his name was P-i-p, Pip! He was very good voice. All the coaches turned and fought for him. Adam won. I think that is a real good fit for both.
Next was Erin Willet who we saw had great support from her dad. Unfortunately we also found out that he was suffering from stage 4 pancreatic cancer. She showed a real strong voice with lots of style. Blake only turned. I was happy for her that she got to share a success with her Dad since I recently read that was the last performance he would see as he has since passed away. :(
David Grace sang Sweet Home Alabama which is a really tough song to do since you have to do something different with it to make it stand out from all the high profile versions out there. Unfortunately he just had an ok audition. No one turned although Blake almost did.
Katrina Parker showed off a very good voice and a special quality to her tone and phrasing. Surprisingly, only Adam turned.
Geoff McBride showed he had a good voice and performing style. Xtina & Cee Lo turned. Xtina won.
I didn't like Erin Martin's voice. Just not my preference but Blake & Cee lo turned. Cee Lo won.
James Massone has an interesting voice. All but adam turned. Cee Lo won.
Winter Rae (awesome name!) has a tattooed rocker look but is an R&B singer which is quite interesting. Unfortunately she didn't make a good song choice to show her range. No one turned.
Chris Cauley did an ok audition of Bruno Mars' Grenade but Cee Lo & Adam turned. Adam won.
Then we got some quick auditions and who the coaches picked. Nathan Parrett got Adam as his coach. Brian Fuente got Blake. Moses Stone, the first MC to tryout got Xtina to coach him. That should be interesting.
The last contestant of the night was Jordis Unga. I was a big fan of hers when she was a contestant on Rock Star INXS. She looked different but she still has that great voice. I was really happy to see her in the spotlight again. Blake won her on his team.

RIP Whitney
I still am trying to process this. Whitney Houston's voice has been silenced. We will never hear her sing again and that makes me immensely sad. She had one of the purest yet strongest voices of all time. What a gifted and blessed voice. A voice that inspired millions around the world to sing, to have as their wedding songs, to have as part of the soundtrack of their lives.
My heart breaks for her daughter Bobbi Kristina, her mom Cissy and her ex Bobby Brown. If we her fans are so heartbroken, I can only imagine how her family and friends feel. My prayers go out to them.
I spent Sunday morning playing her music so that my daughters (who knew some of her music) could hear more of her music and truly understand why the world is mourning the loss of Whitney and her God blessed voice.
I knew watching the Grammys would be especially emotional but I really felt that LL Cool J did a great job balancing the emotions of the evening. His prayer for Whitney was very touching. I absolutely loved Jennifer Hudson's song tribute and it was so classy and well done by the Grammys.
Whitney may be gone from us forever but we are blessed to have her musical legacy to always remember her and her voice by. RIP Whitney.

Grammy night!
Tonight was music's biggest night, Grammy Awards night! With the sadness over the passing of Grammy legend Whitney Houston, this Grammy Awards night promises to be an emotional affair.
I was watching the Red Carpet pre-show on the E channel and got sad with the touching interview with Kelly Price about Whitney. Rihanna looked amazing on the E Red Carpet.
LL Cool J was the host and began the show with a beautiful prayer. He delivered the prayer & introductory speech with the right mix of emotions for the evening.
I loved Rihanna's performance. Love her new look!
Score 1 for recording old school garage band style. Great advice by Dave Grohl!
Glen Campbell sounded great. Such a courageous display of defiance to such a horrible disease and fate that awaits him. I hope that a cure is found for Alzheimers soon. His song "Rhinestone Cowboy" reminds me of my mom. She loved that song.
Jennifer Hudson gave us a beautiful Whitney Houston tribute and a Grammys moment we will never forget.
I really dig the whole visual with Deadmau5. The ceylon mau5 was VERY cool!
Nicki Minaj ended the night with a performance that was high concept and very theatrical. I liked it.
Great ending to the Grammys, its music helped heal us a little tonight. I hope it helped Whitney's family heal a little bit too. I'm sure she was there in spirit enjoying all the love shown to her. RIP Whitney.

American Idol - Hollywood night 2
Night 2 of Hollywood week. Tonight we got the conclusion to the scary fall and the beginning of the Group night. I don't know which one had more drama!
I was glad to see that Symone was ok after her scary fall. She got dehydrated and it cost her at the most inopprtune time. Luckily, she had already auditioned and made it through in the judge's views.
Group night begins! This is the notorious contestant killer as many can't adjust to working with others and personalities clash.
Half of the contestants will be gone after the Group night. Yikes! To up the ante, this year they introduced new rules! Double yikes!! Lol.
Amy Brumfield was very sick with a fever and weakness but eventually found the strength to go look for a group. She found one with Cop girl Alisha. Alisha wasn't willing to compromise and wound up losing her group!
Symone came back from the ER and seemed to find a group pretty fast which was good to see.
We got to see Jennifer and Briana of the Bettys come together as a group. That was cool to see. And they got to go first!! But we will have to wait till next week to see that. :/

Half of the contestants will be gone after the Group night. Yikes! To up the ante, this year they introduced new rules! Double yikes!! Lol.
Amy Brumfield was very sick with a fever and weakness but eventually found the strength to go look for a group. She found one with Cop girl Alisha. Alisha wasn't willing to compromise and wound up losing her group!
Symone came back from the ER and seemed to find a group pretty fast which was good to see.
We got to see Jennifer and Briana of the Bettys come together as a group. That was cool to see. And they got to go first!! But we will have to wait till next week to see that. :/

American Idol - Hollywood week night 1
Time for Hollywood!! This and the singing for votes are my favorite parts of the whole audition process. This is when it starts to get intense and boy did it! Some favorites stumbled and some were sent home while others rose and shined.
They started with groups of 10. Half of the contestants were slated to go home on day 1! Wow! Intense.
I found Johnny Keyser way too confident but he made it through. On the flipside was Heejun Han who once again lacked confidence. He gave a good audition though and made it through as well.
I was happy to see Baylie Brown and Hallie Day make it through.
We were introduced to Jen Hirsh who has a really good voice.
I was happy to see Lauren Gray make it through although I didn't think her audition lived up to my prediction of being the winner.
Phillip Phillips had an ok audition and I was a bit surprised that he made it through. Reed Grimm had a weird audition, it was very indulgent. His vocal sounded good though.
Fellow Bronx resident Travis Orlando only had an ok audition. I was surprised that he didn't get through though.
I was shocked to hear that Ramiro Garcia was sent home, I had him as a top 2 contender based on his initial audition. I was sad to see Jason "Wolf" Hamlin go home.

Jessica Phillips rocked it. I was happy to see her fiance with her.

The Voice - night 2 of auditions
Night 2 of The Voice auditions was just as good as last night's post-Superbowl edition.
Hailey & Leland, known as the duo "the Line" went first. They have good voices. All 4 judges turned. Xtina won yet another contestant. She's on a roll.
We got Bronx resident Jamar Rogers' backstory and he's had a rough life but is trying to rise above his past. He has a good voice. Only Cee Lo turned but that was all he wanted as he was a very big fan of Cee Lo's.
Neal Middleton went next. He had a familiar theme on this show where a lot of singers come on here as a last chance or validation of their talent after sacrificing for so many years without breaking through. Unfortunately, that's an all too true reality of trying to make it in music BUT you must, NEVER, NEVER, EVER give up! He had a real cool look and a good voice. No one turned for him which made me sad. I can understand their critique that he sounded like he was turned up to 10 the whole song though. I hope he doesn't stop, he does have talent.
Another singer that had been previewed in commercials was next. Gwen Sebastian did Sugarland's powerful song "Stay". Again, we got another backstory of how much she has sacrificed for her art, even waiting on starting a family. You do what you must to follow your dream. She has a nice voice (although I was expecting more based on what I had heard in the commercials). She is a real sweet girl and her desire is evident so I'm glad that all except Xtina turned for her. Being a country girl, she went with the obvious and Blake won.
50 year old Kim Yarbrough was next. She does not look her age and her mentality definitely feels that age is only a number. I loved her attitude and spirit. She has a very good voice and it was no wonder that Xtina & Adam turned and fought for her. Adam won. Strong win for his team.
Ex-soldier Angie Johnson was next. She did Pat Benatar's "Heartbreaker" which isn't an easy song to do. She was very good and has a great look as well. She has the total package and can go very far in this even if she doesn't win. Surprisingly only Cee Lo turned based on her voice. She's definitely a strong member to his team.
I really liked Lindsey Pavao's voice and vibe, she did a very creative interpretation of the song she chose. All except Adam turned, Xtina won her to her team.

The Voice is back! Night 1 of auditions!
The first episode of the new season of the Voice premiered right after the Superbowl, talk about a ratings lead-in!
Before I go on, although I'm a NY Jets fan I did root for the hometown Giants in the Superbowl. Great game, that ending was intense!! Also, on a side note - I'm more of a baseball fan so I usually watch the Superbowl for the half-time show and the commercials. Madonna totally rocked it. She still has it and looked great. I found the Doritos and M&Ms commercials funny and was mesmerized by the Avengers trailer. CAN'T WAIT!!!
Ok... back to The Voice...
I thought RaeLynn was good and had a nice look. Adam & Blake turned for her, Blake won the first contestant of the new season.
Like Javier Colon last year in the commercials, I found myself wanting to see single dad Jesse Campbell's audition based on the preview in the commercial. He's 42 and has had it real rough but yet hasn't given up on his dream. I totally admire that and his spirit. He has an amazing voice. All the judges turned and Xtina won which I thought was a perfect fit.
Daniel Rosa went next. He was lacking confidence and I worried what would happen if he didn't do well. He has a nice voice but his nerves were definitely showing through. His lack of confidence didn't help him and it didn't help that as he kept singing no one turned for him. I didn't like that the coaches didn't have any critique for him until he decided to step up and ask for some. It takes a lot of guts to do what he did and I hope he continues working on his voice and confidence. I hope he doesn't give up on his voice.
Rocker Juliet Simms was next. I liked her style and the raspiness in her voice. Everyone but Blake turned for her and while I thought she would go with Adam, she went with Cee Lo.
Classical singer Chris Mann was next and he has a very strong voice. Cee Lo & Xtina turned for him. I like what they asked him and I liked his answer that he just wants to be himself after years of trying to fit his voice into a box. That's what shows like this can do. Expose non-mainstream voices to the mainstream and establish a new mainstream. I'm glad Xtina won because they will make a good fit.
Former Mickey Mouse Club member Tony Lucca went last. He was a castmate of Xtina's and she didn't seem to recognize him or if she did, she played it professionally and didn't say anything until backstage when she sought him out. Anyway, I thought he has a really good voice. All the judges turned for him. Adam won his first contestant of the season.
Good strong opening to the first night of the Voice! Can't wait to see more.

Superbowl Sunday
Superbowl Sunday. I don't watch much football. At least not as much as I watch wrestling, baseball, Nascar or MMA but I do watch the Superbowl.
But first the day begins with the Animal Planet's Puppybowl! Watched it with my girls and had fun making tweets about it. Lol.
I must confess that I watch the SuperBowl more for the commercials & halftime performances.
So here are my thoughts on that:
Sasha Baron Cohen's movie trailer for "The Dictator" was funny!
OH MY GOD... AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!!! 'Nuff said!
The Doritos commercials were all entertaining.
Madonna's halftime performance showed she's still got it! She looked and sounded great. The bleachers dance was cool! Great song choices and I loved the big ending!
A good night of TV was capped off with the Giants winning the SuperBowl! Congrats to Big Blue!

Video storyboarding!
Hey Dreamers y sonadores!
I'm working on video storyboards today! This is a fun first part in making a music video where we map out the scenes and ideas to the music & lyrics. You get to see how many seconds you have for each scene and how it will all flow together before actually filming any of it. Then when it comes time to shoot the video you have this roadmap to follow and know which scenes to shoot first or which scenes can be shot together, etc. It's all part of the creative process of making a music video! :)

American Idol auditions end in St Louis
Tonight we got the final auditions before heading to Hollywood next week. Good thing, I didn't find these auditions matching the pre-season hype of what to expect. Sure there were some very good singers and I'm sure there are plenty more we haven't been shown until Hollywood week. Just didn't find these 1 hour audition shows all that enthralling as I usually do. However, there were some good singers today. Here are my thoughts on the notables:
Johnny Keyser has a good voice and look.
Divorcing mom Rachelle Lamb has a good voice. I'm glad she's back to pursuing her dream. No one should hold another back from their dreams. That's not love.
Reis Kloeckener told his story of how he was a bullied kid. Nice to see him going for his dreams. He has a nice voice.
Ethan Jones told us of his Dad who is in rehab trying to get his life together. He has a good voice.
Lauren Gray went last and she is a cute & sweet girl. Her voice grabbed me. From all the contestants we were shown in the auditions I pick her as a Top 2 contender and maybe even the winner. I was obviously very impressed with her.
Next week, Hollywood!! I've read that this season's Hollywood week is crazy, with contestants even fainting from the pressure. We were shown a preview clip and saw some of that. It's going to get crazy, hopefully some of the favorites can rise above it and make it through. Good luck to them all, looks like they're going to need it!

American Idol auditions from Portland, OR
Tonight was another AI auditions night, this time from Portland.
There were some good singers from these auditions but I wish we were shown more good singers. Here are some of the notables.
Brittany Zika has a very good voice and a cute look.
Self professed 6'8" mama's boy Jermaine Jones had a real nice baritone voice. Really nice guy too, a real gentle giant. I hope he goes far.
Britney Spears lookalike Britnee Kellogg had a good voice and since I'm a Britney Spears fan, I obviously thought she had a good look. ;)
We got a sad backstory on Romeo Diahn from Liberia. It's good for shows like AI to show what people of other countries go through in their quest for freedom and a normal life. Things that are taken too much for granted sometimes in our country. He had a very nice world music type voice. I don't think he'll go far in Hollywood but sometimes just that validation is all the motivation you need to continue to reach for your dreams.
Naomi Gilles did Aerosmith's "Cryin" which isn't an easy song to sing. She showed a real strong voice.
Jessica Phillips was shown to us last. She had a very sad story of her boyfriend having a stroke at a very young age. It was also a very touching love story of them staying together and trying their best to work through it and being there for each other. I wanted her to get through to Hollywood and she did but I wonder what the pressures of Hollywood will do to the relationship? Hopefully it'll only make them stronger. I found that she sounds like Mary J and picked a perfect song to audition with.

RIP Don Cornelius
I was sad to hear about the passing of Don Cornelius today. I remember watching Soul Train growing up for the music and the latest dance moves. He created an institution and legacy with Soul Train out of $400 and a dream. RIP Don.

Spartacus returns!
I can't wait for the return of Spartacus tonight! This show is gory and over the top but the storyline is crazy. One crazy, gory, over the top twist after another. LOL. It will be strange to not see Andy Whitfield as Spartacus. I can't believe he's gone so young and when he was in such outwardly great physical shape. Unfortunately cancer doesn't discriminate. May he RIP.

I was sorry to hear about the passing of Welcome Back Kotter's Robert "Epstein" Hegyes who died far too young at 60. Thanks for the laughs. RIP. Forever a sweathog.

American Idol - Texas auditions
Tonight we got auditions from Galveston, Texas. It doesn't seem like we are being shown all that many impressive singers so far this season during the audition process. I think they are waiting to show us the singers and contenders during Hollywood week that way they are fresh to us.
There were some notable singers tonight though.
Skylar Laine was the first. Very cool name! She also had a very good country voice and seems like a nice girl.
Baylie Brown returned for another try. She had made it to Hollywood week in the past and it was good to see her come back and try again. If she can get past what stopped her last time, she can get far as she has a very good voice & look.
Divorcing mom of 3 Kristine Osorio was up next. She gave up a lot to get there and gave up a budding career to raise her family (something I can relate to) so I hoped she could sing well and make it through to Hollywood. She has a very nice voice with some real power to it. Good to see her get to Hollywood. I hope she does well.
Then we got to see the judges fighting over some of the contestants. I usually agree with Randy but I don't know what he was hearing from the contestants we were shown. He and Steven were wrong in their choices while JLo was right on with them all. Randy and Steven turned away some good talent while sending some questionable talent to Hollywood.
Cortez Shaw was finally the first Top 12 contender that I've seen! He has a good look and I really like his voice.

Born with no ears, he was not expected to ever hear or be able to speak yet not only did he prove the doctors wrong, there he was singing with an absolutely wonderful voice. The second Top 12 contender of the season! I hope he goes all the way and makes the Top 12. I found his story, family and voice very inspiring and touching. I'll be rooting for him for sure!

Lost Girl
I just saw the second episode of Syfy's "Lost Girl" on my DVR and I like it. IMO, Ksenia Solo is the breakout star on the show. I love her character!
Touched by Touch
Last night was the preview / first episode of Touch. I had been looking forward to this show after seeing the very first commercial for it. Another Fox show with Kiefer Sutherland and created/written by Tim Kring? Being a big fan of Keifer and his Jack Bauer and Kring's Heroes, I'm totally in with that combination!
The show left me absolutely blown away. It was everything I was expecting and so much more.
I absolutely loved the whole we are all tied together, butterfly effect concept. Being a huge fan of Kring's work on Heroes, I loved how he tied all these characters together on the show with an underlying commentary to explain it all. I really was happy to see him continue that theme on Touch. I also liked the interaction Kiefer's struggling father figure had with his autistic child, against the background of his being a widower. Just lots of real human issues to work with and touch on.
I can't wait for the next episode in March so this preview episode did its job effectively with me. I hope it resonated with everyone that saw it last night and that the word of mouth is great for this show because it deserves a very large audience.

American Idol - Colorado auditions
AI was back on its normal time slot and this time we had auditions from Colorado. Beautiful state. Love the mountains. Hope to visit there one day.
Some really good contestants in Colorado!
First up was Jenni Schick. I found her hyperactivity rather annoying. Although I'm sure she's hyperactive in real life as she mentioned, I just couldn't help but think that she brought it up a few notches for TV purposes. I don't think that will play too well when it comes to working with a group in Hollywood. We'll see. She had a good voice, could use some work but good.
Curtis Gray did my favorite Boyz II Men song and I found him ok. He could use some work but has potential.
We got quick glimpses of Richie Law (good voice) and Mathanee Treco (pretty good audition!)
Flower child Haley Smith was a fresh voice and personality. I like that she wasn't afraid to be herself. THAT is cool. I'm not sure what to make of Shelby Tweten. She had a really good voice and look but she went on the show talking about her being bi-polar and battling depression since a young age and how the show gave her motivation. I like that she used it to inspire herself and her message to inspire others but what if she had gone on and not made it? What would that have done to her? What happens to her if she doesn't make it in the pressure cooker of Hollywood? I worry for her about that. This is a real hard business full of criticism and lots of pressure. I hope she and her family can deal with it all as she moves forward.
Next up was Jairon Jackson who not only has a cool name but a real nice R&B voice.
Lady Gaga wannabe Angie Ziederman went next and I found her un-original and trying way too hard. I did like her fearlessness though. The show tunes audition was not a good idea either. I did find that she had a really good voice when she sang pop. If she can rein herself in and make better song choices I think she can go far.
To end the night we had Russell Brand wannabe Magic Cyclops. Yes MAGIC CYCLOPS. I like how he found a reasoning for his british accent even though he was from Iowa! LOL! He made me ROFL when he said he had 11,000 air guitars! Now THAT was funny.
Some really good contestants in Colorado!
First up was Jenni Schick. I found her hyperactivity rather annoying. Although I'm sure she's hyperactive in real life as she mentioned, I just couldn't help but think that she brought it up a few notches for TV purposes. I don't think that will play too well when it comes to working with a group in Hollywood. We'll see. She had a good voice, could use some work but good.
Curtis Gray did my favorite Boyz II Men song and I found him ok. He could use some work but has potential.
We got quick glimpses of Richie Law (good voice) and Mathanee Treco (pretty good audition!)
Flower child Haley Smith was a fresh voice and personality. I like that she wasn't afraid to be herself. THAT is cool. Inkmaster
Tonight I was watching Dave Navarro's reality competition show Inkmaster. I have 7 tattoos and am a fan of Dave's, so I took interest in wanting to watch this show. On this show, tattoo artists compete to see who is the best overall tattoo artist. The judges are all tops in their field and these judges keep things real with the tattoo artists. It's a cool show. I can't believe that people would volunteer for free tattoos that may or may not come out how they want them but I guess for free people are willing to take the chance.

I want to let you all know some of the music I listen to. Even though I listen to most of what comes out every week, a lot of the music I like to listen to came out a while ago. I prefer a lot of the older hits to today's music, especially '80s hard rock.

American Idol: San Diego auditions
Last night we got a special Sunday night edition of AI auditions from San Diego. The location of the auditions, on an aircraft carrier was probably one of the coolest locations you could ever take an audition on.
Single mom Ashley Robles was up first and got the night of auditions off with a bang. She auditioned with a Whitney song! That takes guts. But she delivered! Very good voice and a good look. She'll be one to look out for in Hollywood.
Jayrah Gibson was next. He has a cool voice, not very strong though. He had an outgoing personality which helps him.
Aubree Dieckmeyer has an interesting voice. Agree with Randy that she loses power as she goes higher. Hopefully she works on that before getting to Hollywood.
Ali Shields was very outgoing and bold. Almost too much, made it hard for me to believe her stories. Also, it was hard to tell her voice quality because she sounded like she was imitating too much on the song she chose to audition with.
Ladies man Kyle Crews?!? Lol. He did have a nice voice though.
Jane Carrey we found out is actually Jim's daughter. That's pretty cool right there. She had a good voice. Will be interesting to see if she plays it up or down when she gets to Hollywood.
I really like mechanic Jason "Wolf" Hamlin. He seems like a really good guy. I think he did his deceased Dad real proud. He has a real nice voice. He really came alive and rocked on his Dad's home-made git-fiddle. Glad to see him move onto Hollywood.

American Idol: Pittsburgh auditions
So, tonight American Idol showed us auditions from Pittsburgh. Some really good talent in the steel city!
Here are my thoughts on some of the notables of the evening:
I liked Heejun Han. He was kind of psyched out before his audition as he let hearing others sing undermine his confidence but he sang well and did a good job. Just goes to show, always believe in yourself and don't worry about what other are doing.
Reed Grimm has a very good style. You can tell he was singing since he was 2. Good job.
Aaron Marcellus has a great voice.
Samantha Novacek has a good voice and a nice look but the planking sister was gimmicky and dumb. Just un-necessary. Can you tell I think planking is ridiculous? Lol.
Creighton Fraker is a NY street artist and I really liked his good jazzy style. Just goes to show that there is so much undiscovered talent. You could be hearing it on your way to work. If so, take a moment to let them know how talented you think they are. It could make their day and provide motivation to them to continue.
Eben Franckewitz was very prepared, having worked on songs and arrangements beforehand. He had a real nice tone. Talented kid. Even though he said that people say he reminds them of Justin Bieber, I think his look and voice is more similar to Grayson Chance.
I was happy to see Bronx kid Travis Orlando back! I was sorry to hear his sad story though, he's had it rough since we saw him last season. You can tell he wants it for so many personal reasons. I'm glad he made it through.
Mobile DJ Erika Van Pelt has a real nice soulful voice.
Coal miner Shane Bruce didn't make it, needs work for sure but he has potential. I didn't like Steve's comment to him that maybe he was meant to just sing in the mine for his co-workers. Then a few seconds later after Randy and Jennifer offer constructive advice, he then offered something more constructive himself. Not cool.
The last contestant of the night was Hallie Day and I really liked her a lot. She has a very good luck and voice to match. She's had a really rough life in pursuit of her music dream but with the lessons learned behind her and with her husband's support, I think she has a bright future ahead.

American Idol Season 11 is back! Night 1
One of my favorite shows is back and you know what that means, lots of blog thoughts and posts about every show! Why do I love AI so much? I just love that this show is there to give dreamers a shot at making their dreams come true or at least giving it a shot. I've always been of the opinion that it's OK to try something, even if you fail, as long as you try. It takes a lot of courage and ambition to try to get on AI so bravo to all that auditioned, good, bad and in-between! My label World Conquest Records is always trying to find undiscovered talents so go to the World Conquest Records site and check out what they are looking for. Maybe you can be a label-mate! ;)
Anyway, onto last night's first AI auditions from Savannah, GA!
I made notes on some of the contestants from the show:
I found David Leathers way too full of himself and he had a nice voice but it was a bit undisciplined and I suspect he'll get awestruck in Hollywood.
I liked tap-dancer Gabi Carruba. She had a nice jazzy style to her voice and a nice personality as well.
They showed us a brief clip of some really good singers going to Hollywood. They all sounded better than the first batch of featured contestants.
Then came Shaun Kraisman. I didn't find his whole Seacrest wannabe shtick amusing, I actually found it rather creepy.
Shannon Magrane had a nice voice, looks like Carrie Underwood.
Next was my sentimental favorite of the night Amy Brumfield. Her story broke my heart, her spirit in the face of living in such impoverished conditions really touched me. I wish someone like Ryan or JLo, would slip her $5-10k - just so her and her boyfriend could get themselves into an apartment of some sort. Sweet girl. I was so glad to hear that she had a wonderful voice and could get a chance to go to Hollywood. I loved her boyfriend's reaction when she showed him the ticket. He immediately yelled his belief in her that she would make it. Through thick and thin, they showed what couples should do for each other. Real sweet.
I really liked Stephanie Renae. She seems to be a real sweet girl, she has lots of potential and I'm glad JLo and Steven gave her a chance to go to Hollywood.
I thought Schylar Dixon got a bit of a raw deal. She came in without her brother to show what she could do and the judges made her bring him in and made it more about him than her. That was rather disrespectful IMO. I like her, she has a nice look and a real cool raspiness to her voice. It was cool that Colton was made to audition and brought to Hollywood too. It was nice that the judges showed that much belief in his talent, just wished they hadn't pushed aside Schylar to do it.
I admire people like Lauren Mink who work with people with disabilities. That's a very noble job. She has a strong voice, will have to pick it up in Hollywood though.
Then came Ms. JoyHop Ashlee Altise. She has a good voice but I found her personality rather annoying.
WT Thompson quit his job to audition. That's belief and dedication! I liked his voice. I'm glad he got a chance to go to Hollywood.
Pro cheerleader Brittany Kerr certainly has the look and had a good voice to match. Will have to pick it up a lot in Hollywood though.
The last contestant of the night was Phillip Phillips. Being an emotional, passionate style singer myself, I loved his vocal style and voice. His version of Thriller on guitar was really original and cool too! He was easily the best of the night.
I didn't hear any potential AI winners in this bunch of singers but I did see some singers who can have good careers! Looking forward to tonight's show!

A different kind of burger!
For my daughter's birthday I decided to surprise her and the family by taking her out to eat at a restaurant I saw on Man v Food. Took her to Ted's Restaurant in CT where we had the most awesome steamed cheeseburgers. They were as good as advertised. If you're ever in CT, I recommend you finding one of the Ted's restaurants and trying their steamed cheeseburgers. You'll be happy you did!

Vampires Diaries thoughts
The Vampire Diaries is one of my favorite TV shows. One of my favorite characters is Caroline. But poor Caroline! In 3 seasons of TVD, the poor girl has gotten like only 20 minutes of happiness. Her character is such a tragic character and I love how Candice Accola plays her. Even as a vampire she can't catch a break. I hope her character finds some happiness, if even only for an episode.

Well, how sweet it was to hear the roar of NASCAR engines from a day of Daytona Testing! I can't wait for the season to begin! I always go through NASCAR withdrawal when the season ends so it was cool to get this glimpse at some action this early in the year.

Ghosthunters & Faceoff - a good pairing
Tonight I was watching two of my favorite Syfy channel shows - GhostHunters, (so glad its back! Great location tonight!) and FaceOff.
For those of you unfamiliar with the shows, Ghosthunters is a show about a group of ghosthunters obviously who travel to places to find spirits and to also debunk places of paranormal spirit activity. They are the TV pioneers in this field and they bring a lot of scientific equipment on their investigations to capture evidence and then show & explain it to the clients they are trying to help. The cool thing is that TAPS (their group name) never charges for this work. It is just something they are passionate about. Over the seasons they've been on, they've captured some amazing evidence on EVPs and video.
Faceoff is a cool show with Special Effects makeup designers competing to win the top prize. They are judged by some of the best special effects makeup designers in Hollywood. The creations they come up with week after week on limited time are amazing. I love seeing the creativity they show as they bring their ideas to life from drawings to their creature creations.

Edge & the Four Horsemen are HOF bound!
As you all know, I'm a huge wrestling fan. I was psyched to hear tonight on Monday Night Raw that Edge is Hall Of Fame bound! So well deserved, he is one of the best EVER to step into the ring! Then later in the night we heard that the 4 Horsemen are also being inducted into the HOF! Hell yeah! I wonder which incarnation of the Horsemen will get inducted? Should be interesting to see but well deserved for probably the greatest stable of all time.

'12 Movie trailers
I just watched some movie trailers with my family and '12 looks to be a great year of movie watching for a sci-fi & fantasy movie fan like me! "The Wrath of the Titans" and Prometheus trailers look great! Can't wait! The Batman trailer is crazy! Can't wait to see this last entry in Christian Bale's Batman trilogy.

Veteran's Day benefit concert with Bret Michaels!
Yesterday was Veteran's Day. I am very patriotic and support our troops. They are putting their lives on the line and making the ultimate sacrifice in some cases for our safety and for our freedom. They do it out of patriotic service to our country and I respect that. Whether the mission they are sent on is right or wrong, I will always support and show respect to our servicemen and women who are doing a job and putting their lives on the line so that we can enjoy ours.
My wife and I went to a benefit concert in support of the troops. It was a rather awesome night of music and patriotism. The night began with Honor Vet founders talking about the organization. Both founders are in their early 20s! Then we saw a trailer for the movie "Red Tails" which is about the famed Tuskegee Airmen. To our surprise, an actual Tuskegee Airman was there! That was VERY cool. Afterwards, one of the stars of the movie, Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr. was introduced and spoke with the crowd. It was quick but very cool. Then Senator John McCain was introduced to the crowd. His son is one of the founders of Honor Vet so he was there to support his son. Then we got onto the music which began with an all-star band consisting of members of Phish, Blues Traveler, Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top and more! A good night of music. AND this was all BEFORE Bret Michaels hit the stage with his band! During the intermission, the lights came on and sitting next to us was Sen. John McCain! He was totally mobbed for photos and autographs and was very gracious as he accommodated everyone, including me! I got to take a photo with an American Hero - Sen. McCain on Veteran's Day! How cool is that? Then it was time for Bret to rock! As you know, I'm a big fan of Bret and Poison so I had a blast! Bret totally rocked and the night was a rousing success in my book. Totally awesome and memorable.

Justice for MJ
The verdict against Conrad Murray came in today and I'm glad to see that justice has been served. I hope that MJ's soul can now rest. I also hope his family and especially his children can finally find some closure.

Rock of Ages rocked me!
My oldest daughter bought my wife and I tickets to see "Rock of Ages" on Broadway to celebrate our anniversary today. As everyone knows, I love 80s hard rock and hair metal so I was really looking forward to the play. We had to endure a freak snowstorm to get there but it was awesome. I won't spoil the plot of the play for anyone who might want to see it but I will say that if you like the music of that era, you will love this play!
One thing that I took away from the play besides all the amazing and talented singers/actors in the play and the great live music being played, is how the songs were used within the play. It reinforced to me of the power of music and how a song can be one thing to someone and something different to someone else based on what is going on within their lives. There was one moment where Poison's (my favorite band from that era!) song "Every rose has its thorn" was used and it was sung by about 5 or so different characters from the play, all with very different storylines. It was so cool to see how the song applied to each of them and their situations. The power of music. Such a wonderful thing.

St. Louis Cardinals win the World Series!
As you all know, I'm a diehard Mets fan but what many don't know is that the Cardinals are my second favorite team. I'm a huge fan of Pujols (I hope he stays with the Cards) and he is my favorite player outside of my Mets. David Wright is my favorite current Mets player. Mike Piazza is my favorite all-time Met, along with Tom Seaver.
Anyway, this is about the Cardinals who just won the World Series in dramatic fashion. This was such a great World Series with some of the most competitive games in the history of the Series. The Cards just wouldn't quit and were a team of destiny against a very strong Rangers team. Congrats to the Cardinals, the city of St. Louis and to the fans of the Cardinals (some of baseball's best and most devoted fans). Congrats to the 2011 Champions!

My latest reading material
I've recently revived my interest in astronomy, ancient history and ancient mysteries. I really like to learn about the past and the how and why of things, especially things that have yet to be explained even in this modern day and age. It's something I've always been interested in but haven't taken the time to read or explore further. Now though, I'm taking my spare time to read and journey through time and space. It's a wild ride!

Terra Nova - dinosaurs + Spielberg = happy me!
Tonight was the debut of Terra Nova and I really liked it! I'm a big dinosaur fan and I just love watching dinosaur related movies and shows. When I was young, I wanted to be a fossil hunter. I used to read lots of books on dinosaurs. In recent years, the dinosaur field has really exploded with new discoveries and I've tried to keep up with it. Yup, I'm a dinosaur nerd! Proud of it too!
I really loved the first 2 Jurassic Park movies and liked the dinos in the 3rd one. The books were really good. I hear there's a new Jurassic Park movie in the works, looking forward to that. So, when I heard Spielberg was involved with Terra Nova, I was there and wasn't disappointed. The human characters are pretty good too! ;)

The space shuttle's last flight
Today the space shuttle Atlantis took off on its final flight and mission. I watched the launch and flight into space with a taste of bittersweet. It is always amazing to watch one of man's greatest accomplishments, to launch a vehicle into outer space but this was also sad to watch knowing it was the very last space shuttle flight. I've always been a big fan of NASA and am a big believer that man should continue its exploration of space and finding better ways to get farther out into the galaxy. It's man's destiny to go beyond Earth. It angers me that the government and NASA have shut down the space shuttles without any replacement vehicle in the near future. I understand that the shuttles are old and need to be replaced but how can they shut them down and decommission them without having a system ready to go? Just seems short-sighted to me. I also think that having our astronauts shuttled to and from the space station via russian rocketships as something that shouldn't be happening. I hope NASA shows a better plan for the future.

The Voice finale, the winner is...
Tonight was The Voice finale and it was a really good show filled with cool performances (some ok, some good and some great). The final 2 came down to a contrast of styles with Javier Colon against Dia Frampton. Javier's inclusion in one of the early The Voice commercials was what got my interest in the show early on. I saw this guy doing this amazing version of a Cyndi Lauper song and thought wow, this guy is really talented. I have to see this guy and hear more. Dia's style and voice is also really interesting but IMO the easy winner was Javier. Indeed, Javier became the first The Voice winner but I suspect that we'll be seeing and hearing lots from a bunch of these contestants. The Voice's season was real short but it was very good and I'm already looking forward to the next season of it!

Proud parent!
Busy week for me, (on top of everything else), my 2 young daughters are graduating this week. My youngest is graduating 5th grade tomorrow and my middle daughter is graduating in 2 days! I'm soooo proud of my little ladies of course! :)

The Voice
You all know I love American Idol and watching new talents discovered and developed before our eyes. I've also watched CMT's Next Superstar which was very good. Now comes "The Voice". At first the concept seemed curious but then I saw a 14 minute teaser and I found myself really wanting to see it. The talent shown on the teaser was just so good. I can't say the show disappointed in any form. The talent was very good and the concept of the blind auditions for the judges who just had a voice and no image to go by was very fresh and cool. The judges had good chemistry and I liked how competitive they were with each other and how there was even a bit of trash talking going on. I'm really looking forward to more episodes of this show!

Cool video I saw today
I saw the video today for Brett Eldredge's song "Raymond". First time I've heard the song and saw the video and the video really touched me. It reminded me of my mom when she was rehabbing in the nursing home. I remember seeing so many older folks there that wouldn't get visits from family or friends. One of the things that the administration at the place always used to rave about my family was that we were always there to visit my mom and I was always on top of any issues she needed addressed. It was so sad to hear them tell me that many of the patients there wouldn't have any visitors at all, not even once a week. They were just dumped there and forgotten by their families and former loved ones. That's really tragic. No one should spend their last days alone and feeling unloved. I want to do something to help this and bring awareness to this, I guess this is my start to doing that. I really recommend checking out the video, search for it - it's worth seeing.

Sad news about a great Mets player
Just read some news today about former Mets great Gary Carter being diagnosed with brain cancer. Doesn't sound good. :(
I'm a huge Mets fan, even though I've lived most of my life in the Bronx (Yankees territory). I've always liked the underdogs and root for them so it was natural for me to like the Mets growing up. The '86 team was a great team that is still celebrated today and Gary Carter was a huge part of the heart and energy of that team. Gary always showed lots of heart and determination, many days he spent getting his knees drained so he could go and play that night. For a catcher to have his knees drained every day and then going out and playing 9 innings shows heart and determination beyond the norm. I know Gary will use that in this fight as well and I wish him the best in this, the fight of his life. He and his family are in my prayers.

Well, here we go. AI finale night! Lots of cool performances and we get the winner!
All the contestants did Lady Gaga's "Born this way". Very cool.
James performed "Living after midnight" & "Breaking the law" with Judas Priest. Way cool to see Priest on TV!
Jacob performed "I smile" with Kirk Franklin. I love this song. Gladys Knight came out to join. I have always been very awed by Gladys Knight since I was a kid. This was too cool.
Casey performed Queen's "Fat bottomed girls" with Jack Black. That was er... mighty interesting. Lol.
The Top 13 girls performed a Beyonce medley of "Single ladies", "Irreplaceable", "Get your body", "If I were a boy" and "Deja Vu". Beyonce came out to do Crazy in love. That's big!
Haley performed "Stepping out" with Tony Bennett.
Lil Jon & TLC performed. The girls came out to join TLC on "Waterfalls". Weird to see TLC without Lisa. :(
Scotty performed "Live like you're dying" with Tim McGraw.
Mark Anthony performed. JLo came out to dance for him. Lol!
The top guys performed a Tom Jones medley, Tom came out to sing "It's not unusual" with the guys.
Lady Gaga performed "The edge of glory". Great performance as usual.
Lauren performed Carrie Underwood's "Before he cheats". Carrie joined her. How awesome was that for Lauren to sing with her Idol? Cool.
Beyonce performed her new single "One plus one".
A spiderman performance? 'Nuff said.
Steve Tyler performed his great song "Dream on".
Official results time! Scotty was calm & cool. Lauren was hyperventilating. And the winner is... Scotty!! Congrats to the newest American Idol!!

Congrats to the 2011 American Idol winner!
So, tonight was the AI finale and it was filled with good performances by contestants who should have good & interesting careers ahead. I'll be listening out for their music!
In the end, Scotty won America's vote over Lauren. I'm happy for Scotty, he seems to be a good kid and he has quite a career ahead. But my winner is still Lauren and I will look forward to hearing more from her and wish her a great career.
Congrats to both, they're both winners. Fans of country music such as myself are winners as well as we'll be hearing plenty of good country music from these two for decades to come. :)

American Idol: Lauren & Scotty sing for our votes!
So.... I had a problem with my phone app and it wiped out all my notes for last night's AI :/
So, I guess that means you'll get a short version of my AI thoughts instead. I can just see some of you celebrating my brevity so settle down! ;)
I wasn't happy to hear of Lauren's vocal problems but she looked determined and not defeated by it so that was good to see.
Scotty sounded good doing his favorite song of the season. Lauren sounded really good doing her favorite song, the raspiness actually added a nice quality to her voice. I gave the oh so slight edge to Scotty in that round.
The next round was doing songs that were given to them by their Idols. George Strait picked a good song for Scotty but I felt he had a little trouble with the higher notes. Carrie Underwood picked a real good song for Lauren that I think she would've really done well had her voice been better. By this point she was beginning to lose volume in her voice.
The last round was Iovine giving them what will be their 1st singles. Scotty's song was nice for a first single but Lauren's song was so strong and perfect for her that I think it removed any doubt as to who the winner of Idol should be.

The next round was doing songs that were given to them by their Idols. George Strait picked a good song for Scotty but I felt he had a little trouble with the higher notes. Carrie Underwood picked a real good song for Lauren that I think she would've really done well had her voice been better. By this point she was beginning to lose volume in her voice.
The last round was Iovine giving them what will be their 1st singles. Scotty's song was nice for a first single but Lauren's song was so strong and perfect for her that I think it removed any doubt as to who the winner of Idol should be.

American Idol - the Final 2 are chosen!
Tonight's the night we found out who the Top 2 contestants for American Idol winner would be.
But first we had performances to see and also see the contestants triumphant and touching returns to home.
We saw Haley go home. Very nice to see all the love shown to her. She has a big career ahead of her.
Next we had the pop-opera trio Il Volo performing. Interesting. An opera version of the Jonas Brothers?!
We next get to see Scotty go home. He was very touched at the outpouring of love throughout the day. While singing his always talked about cover of Josh Turner, he got to meet Josh Turner himself as he came out on stage while he was singing the song for the crowd. Very cool moment!
Nicole Scherzinger performed. Big fan of Nicole but couldn't believe how thin her voice sounded tonight. She is a waaaay better singer than that song showed. Just my opinion.

I wasn't too big a fan of Haley when she first began on the show. She didn't seem to take it seriously enough but little by little she rose to the ocassion as she was beaten down week after week with bottom 3s and harsh criticism that the others didn't seem to get thrown their way. She blossomed and won me over. I look forward to seeing her career. I'm a fan.

American Idol - The Final 3 sing for our votes
Tonight's show began by showing us that Beyonce was this week's mentor. That pretty cool.
Tonight's show was broken up into 3 segments. Idols picking their song; Iovine's choice and judge's choice.
Idols pick segment went first.
Scotty did Lone Star's "Amazed". Was pretty good.
Lauren did Faith Hill's "Wild one". Very good.
Haley did Led Zeppelin. Had her Dad playing guitar which was very cool. Even though she tripped, she rocked it!
All 3 judges said Haley took Round 1!!
Iovine picks segment went next
Scotty did Thompson Square's "Are you gonna kiss me or not". Interesting choice. He did a good version of it but it felt subdued without the female dynamic of the original song. I can't believe Randy compared this performance to a Garth Books performance. That's hyping the performance waaaay too much. Smh...
Lauren did The Band Perry's great yet very sad song "If I die young". Very good.
Haley did Fleetwood Mac's "Rhiannon". Interesting choice but very good.
Steve liked Lauren; Randy & JLo liked Scotty in Round 2.

American Idol - another Idol goes home
James & Scotty opened up the show doing the Brad Paisley / Keith Urban duet "Start a band". I love this song but I didn't like this much.
Haley & Lauren did Miranda Lambert's "Gunpowder & lead". They both sounded great.
Lauren named the first Idol in the top 3!
Lady Gaga video performance while the Idols watched which was rather lame. Enrique Iglesias performed "Dirty dancer" & "I like it". Jordin Sparks did her new song "I am woman". Great performance! The slimmed down Jordin looked great (not that she didn't look great before) and rocked it! We saw the video premiere of Steven Tyler new single "It feels so good".
Haley is in!! She's had the hardest road to the Top 3. I'm so happy for her!!!
Scotty in, James out. James went out singing. I respect that he flew the flag for rock/metal and flew it proudly. I will be following him in the future.

American Idol - Idols do 2 songs again
So this week the Idols are doing songs that inspire them & songs from the Leiber & Stoller songbook. Lady Gaga is the mentor this week!
James began the show with Journey's "Don't stop believing". I am a huge Journey/Steve Perry fan and Perry was the reason I started to do rock music so I looked at James performance a little more critically than I normally would. It was a good performance but sounded like of a Rock of Ages performance.
Haley did MJ's "Earth song". Great performance! I did not agree with Randy or JLo. They just seemed to slam her to the point that it was almost shunning her in favor of the others. I did not like how they treated her.
Scotty did Alan Jackson's "Where were you when the world stopped turning". Good performance. Timely. He knows his audience well.
Lauren did Martina McBride's "Anyway". Her best vocal performance to date. Loved it!
Ryan asked the judges who they thought won the round and Randy said everyone except Haley did well. What was his problem with Haley tonight? >:/
Haley did "I who have nothing". Good advice from Gaga. Great performance again. The judges loved it. Haley just did her thing again. Maybe they should've listened better on the first song too.
Scotty did "Young blood". His performance was too cartoony and over the top.
Lauren did Elvis' "Trouble". Gaga gave her great advice. She looked great & sounded great.
James did "Love potion #9". Good performance but too indulgent at the end.
I thought everyone was good so I will go by past bottom 3's and say that Haley will go home but should get people voting for her if they feel she was criticized too harshly tonight like I thought she was.

American Idol - another idol goes home
It's that time for another Idol to go home. The Idols performed to open up the show.
We got a funny video segment with the Idols in the kitchen with Gordon Ramsey. The Idols were making omelettes with Gordon judging. LOL.
Lady A performed their new single "Just a kiss".
We got a video segment on how they choose their songs & clothes.
James up first. Iovine felt James showing emotion was not good & hurt him. I totally disagree. Ryan had James start a group.
Lauren up next. Iovine felt she held back and would be in the bottom 2. Lauren was asked to be in the other group. She looked very sad and scared. I felt so bad for her but this is what the show is about.
We got another Gordon Ramsey segment with the Idols. JLo performed.
Jacob up next. Iovine didn't like either performance. He was asked to stand with Lauren.
Haley up next. Iovine defended his song choice and felt she was the best of the night. Sent to stand with James.

American Idol does new gen & older gen songs
Interesting theme to last night's show - doing a song from their generation and another song from their parents generation. Pretty broad categories.
We were shown that Sheryl Crow was this week's mentor. She gave some good advice and had some good insight.
The Idols would do the new gen songs first and then come back later and do the older gen songs.
James went first and did "Closer to the edge" by 30 seconds to Mars. Iovine seems to not like older metal/hard rock and felt that this more modern rock fit James better. I don't think this song did much of anything in showing James range and I found it solid but average. His second song "Without you" was way better though and we saw that it meant a lot to James as well. I am an emotional singer myself so I not only really liked it but also know that when you know a singer feels what he's singing, that leads to magic on stage and we saw that last night.
Jacob decided to do the Jordin Sparks/Chris Brown duet "No air" as his first song. He also decided to try to sing both parts and not only was the idea not a very good one but the execution of it was a mess. NOT GOOD at all. His second song was Nazareth's "Love hurts" and Sheryl showed him how to approach the song and it seemed he mimicked her delivery at the start of it. It was good but a bit too all over the place.
This second song was the first time of the night where we saw Iovine giving bad avice to a contestant. He told him that he has to be careful with just being the Luther guy. Really? Luther is a legend and is right where Jacob should be aiming his sights vocally and musically. To have Jacob leave his comfort zone and away from where he is going to be an artist at this point in the competition is not only short-sighted but risky. Another piece of advice that Iovine gave to another contestant was really bad too. More on that in a bit. Was Iovine stacking the deck against some or was it just really bad advice?
Lauren went 3rd and she did Carrie Underwood's "Flat on the floor". It was a good performance for a 16 year old but nowhere near what Carrie does. I think in a few short years that Lauren will be near Carrie's level vocally but Carrie brings so much more to a song than just her vocals, she also brings attitude and an emotional connection that Lauren still is failing to grasp IMO. That's my biggest complaint with Lauren, she sings great but I just don't see that emotional connection to the lyrics. Hopefully it will come with age and experience. Still, with all that said, she sounded really good. Her second song was "Unchained melody" and I basically feel the same with this performance as her first. Really good but not totally connected to the lyrics.
Scotty went 4th and he did Montgomery Gentry's "Gone". I found his singing pretty good but his performing was vastly improved! He didn't do too much of the weird mic holding and he was commanding on stage. I liked the performance a lot. His second song was "You're always on my mind" and his vocals sounded really good. He's definitely constantly improving and working on little things to get better.
Haley went 5th and was given a song by Iovine that was an unreleased Lady Gaga track. At this point in the competition, that was highly risky. She was hesitant at first but did it after getting Miss Gaga's blessing. She was right to be hesitant to do a song that nobody knew. Turns out as usual, there's a reason why the song was unreleased. It wasn't very good by Gaga standards. Haley gave it her all but the song let her down and the judges came down hard on her for it. Felt bad for Haley.
